New Wildlife Area attracts visitors and new residents!

The Wildlife Area created last year is attracting a number of insects, birds and mammals. Volunteers are keeping an unofficial record of all the animals, birds and insects that have been seen so far.

BUTTERFLIES: Small Skipper, Large Skipper, Brimstone, Large White, Small White, Green Veined White, Orange Tip, Small Copper, Common Blue, Holly Blue, Red Admiral, Painted Lady, Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock, Comma, Speckled Wood, Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown.

MAMMALS: Hedgehog, Grey Squirrel, Red Fox, Brown Rat, Common Shrew, Wood Mouse, Long-tailed Field Vole.

BIRDS: Grey Heron, Sparrow Hawk, Kestrel, Pheasant, Woodcock (rare visit during exceptionally cold weather), Woodpigeon, Collared Dove, Swift, Swallow, Pied Wagtail, Wren, Dunnock, Robin, Blackbird, Redwing, Fieldfare, Mistle Thrush, Song Thrush, Blue Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Great Tit, Magpie, Jackdaw, Carrion Crow, Rook, Starling, House Sparrow, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Siskin, Bullfinch.

OVERFLYING BIRDS: Black-headed Gull, Cormorant, Canada Goose, Buzzard, Peregrine Falcon (overflying and displaying).

MOTHS: Large Yellow Underwing, Silver Y, Angle Shades, Cinnabar, 6-Spot Burnett.

DRAGONFLIES: Azure Dragonfly, Southern Hawker, Broad-bodied Chaser, Common Darter.

AMPHIBIANS: Common Frog, Common Toad.
